For years the Kenosha Police Department has heavily focused on mental health awareness within our ranks. The Kenosha Police Department’s PEER Support Team is a well-trained team of officers who provide support to their fellow officers. We also have Kristen, our Mental Health and Wellness Clinical Advisor, who meets with officers when needed and conducts yearly one on one check-ins with all of our sworn staff. We believe that keeping our officers well ensures that we can provide the highest level of service to our community. To build upon that commitment, Lt. Adam Jurgens has been working with Mya Masse from Partners with Paws to expand our PEER Support Team.
Thanks to Partners with Paws, the Kenosha Police Department will be getting a therapy K-9 to enhance officer wellness. As you can see by the photos the selection process was narrowed to two PAWfect candidates. After a rigorous interview with Chief Patton, the puppy in blue prevailed and was named the newest member of the Kenosha Police Department. We want to welcome “Tilly” to the KPD family. Tilly is a 16-week old Labrador Retriever. Tilly was donated to the KPD by Partners with Paws, at no cost to the department. Tilly will start her therapy dog training in early January with her new department handler, who has not yet been selected. Once trained, Tilly, will be assigned to help the PEER Team provide the best possible care for our officers. The therapy dog model has seen success in first responder wellness nationwide and we are excited to have Tilly join our team.
We want to sincerely thank Mya and Partners with Paws for their generosity and for their vision of recognizing the importance of maintaining First Responder mental health. We want to encourage our followers to support Partners with Paws. Please consider going to their website (https://partnerswithpawsservicedogs.org/) under the “More” tab to find “Ways to Help” their organization.
