KENOSHA, Wis. – A 41-year-old Union Grove woman is facing felony charges after allegedly passing a counterfeit $100 bill at a Kenosha grocery store to obtain cash and merchandise.
Holly Marie Goodbrake was charged Monday in Kenosha County Circuit Court with one count of uttering a forgery and one count of misdemeanor theft stemming from an incident that occurred on April 9 at Woodman’s on 118th Avenue. Her initial court appearance is scheduled for August 6.
According to the criminal complaint, Goodbrake allegedly used a fake $100 bill marked “for motion picture use only” to purchase $53.38 in merchandise and received $46.62 in legitimate U.S. currency as change. The store’s loss prevention employee told police the counterfeit bill was collected, along with receipts, surveillance images, and witness statements.
A Kenosha Police Department detective confirmed the bill was fake and identified Goodbrake from surveillance footage and vehicle registration records. The cashier who accepted the counterfeit money reported that Goodbrake had persuaded him to take the bill.
Investigators attempted to make contact with Goodbrake at her home but were unsuccessful.
If convicted of the forgery charge, Goodbrake faces up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The theft charge carries a maximum penalty of nine months in jail.
Goodbrake remains free pending her initial appearance.
