Kenosha, Wis. — A Kenosha man remains in custody after court proceedings Friday, facing multiple criminal charges stemming from an alleged vehicle theft, hit-and-run crash, and child neglect incident earlier this week.
Cortney J. Brantley, 36, appeared before Kenosha County Court Commissioner Michael Masnica on April 25, 2025, where his cash bail was set at $4,000. He remains in the Kenosha County Jail as of Monday.
According to a criminal complaint filed by the Kenosha County District Attorney’s Office, police responded early Tuesday morning to a reported crash near 60th Street and 39th Avenue. Officers allege Brantley stole a 2009 Honda CR-V belonging to another man, fled the scene of a collision without stopping, and was later found to have a glass pipe with drug residue in his possession.
Prosecutors say Brantley initially ran a red light, causing a crash with another driver, and then attempted to flee. Officers stopped him shortly after and noted signs of impairment. Brantley reportedly admitted to using cocaine and drinking alcohol before driving.
Adding to the seriousness of the allegations, police learned that Brantley had left his one-year-old child alone inside a residence while taking the vehicle. Officers found the toddler unsupervised, covered in whiteout paint, but otherwise unharmed.
Brantley faces four criminal counts:
- Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Owner’s Consent (as a Repeater) — a Class H felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison when factoring in a repeater enhancer.
- Hit and Run – Attended Vehicle (as a Repeater) — a misdemeanor with a potential maximum of up to two years in jail due to the enhancer.
- Neglecting a Child – Specified Harm Did Not Occur (as a Repeater) — a Class A misdemeanor carrying a potential two-year maximum term.
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (as a Repeater) — also a misdemeanor punishable by up to two years because of the repeater allegation.
.
Brantley’s prior felony conviction for methamphetamine possession in 2024 allows prosecutors to seek enhanced penalties on all charges.
He is next scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing.

“DearCustomer
White out contains trichlorethane and ingestion hazards can be nausea, vomiting , abdominal pain and systemic side effects if ingested in large amount. It depends on the amount ingested if poison control people have checked the child and think its fine then you need not worry about it but keep all chemicals out of range of children. On skin it causes dermatitis like irritation but absorption through skin is unlikely.”
Too old to be actin the fool.
Another stupid low bail.
