KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. — Authorities have identified the man killed in a predawn collision on Green Bay Road last week as 77-year-old Wayne N. Stade of Kenosha, according to an updated statement issued Tuesday by the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department.
Stade was struck and killed just after 3 a.m. on May 13 while attempting to cross the northbound lanes of Highway 31 near 35th Street in the Village of Somers. The driver, who immediately called 911 and remained at the scene, was not injured and has fully cooperated with investigators, law enforcement said.
Emergency crews from the Somers Fire Department and the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office responded within minutes of the call, but Stade was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kenosha County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Kenosha County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was activated to reconstruct the scene and assist with the ongoing investigation. No citations have been issued, and the Sheriff’s Department has not indicated that impairment or speed were factors.
The sheriff’s department offered condolences to Stade’s loved ones and encouraged anyone affected by the incident to contact the Kenosha Human Development Services Crisis Line, which is available 24/7 at 262-657-7188.
Last week, Kenosha County Eye first reported on the fatal crash, which shut down portions of Green Bay Road for several hours as authorities investigated. At that time, the victim’s identity was being withheld pending notification of family.
This stretch of Highway 31, known for its heavy traffic flow even during off-peak hours, has been the site of other serious collisions in recent years. Community members have periodically raised concerns about pedestrian safety in the area, especially at night when visibility is reduced.
Stade’s death marks the latest fatal pedestrian crash in Kenosha County this year. The investigation remains open, and officials have not yet indicated whether any additional information will be released.
