SALEM LAKES, Wis. – An 18-year-old Illinois man is facing felony charges after allegedly causing a high-speed crash that left one man hospitalized with severe injuries and killed a family’s dog in Salem Lakes on Friday.
Keegan T. Dutton, of Libertyville, appeared in Kenosha County intake court Monday where Court Commissioner William Michel II set cash bail at $25,000. Dutton is charged with second-degree recklessly endangering safety and reckless driving causing great bodily harm—both felonies. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 17.

According to the criminal complaint, the crash occurred in the 26200 block of Highway 50, near the 75th Street Inn. Dutton, driving a BMW convertible, collided with a Toyota Sienna minivan as it attempted to turn into the restaurant’s parking lot. Multiple witnesses told sheriff’s deputies the BMW was traveling at a high rate of speed and may not have braked before the impact. Surveillance video corroborated the account, showing flames erupting from the crash.
Dutton told deputies he was going about 90 mph in a 55 mph zone. His passenger, identified in court as Ireland Arft, estimated his speed at 70 to 75 mph. Arft appeared at Monday’s hearing wearing a sling and requested to maintain contact with Dutton.
The driver of the minivan, a man in his 50s, sustained serious injuries, including multiple rib, lumbar, and neck fractures, and was hospitalized with air in his lungs. His family’s dog, who was in the van at the time, was ejected and died at the scene.
The victim’s wife spoke during the hearing, expressing anguish over the incident. “I would like the court to take into consideration the complete recklessness with which he acted and the impact on my family,” she said. “My whole life is upside down right now.”

Assistant District Attorney Sarah Norkus asked for a $50,000 cash bail, citing Dutton’s admission of excessive speed and a record of four traffic citations in Lake County, Illinois, including three for speeding. “This was complete recklessness,” she said.
Defense attorney Patrick Brady argued that Dutton was not racing or weaving through traffic and disputed claims that he was going 90 mph. “At the end of the day here, the only actual allegation against Keegan is that he was speeding on 50,” Brady said, calling the incident a “tragic accident.” He asked for a signature bond or low cash bail.

Commissioner Michel noted the seriousness of the charges and potential penalties, which include up to 10 years in prison for the reckless endangerment charge and up to six years for reckless driving causing great bodily harm. He also ordered Dutton to have no contact with the injured man and not to drive without a valid license.
Dutton graduated high school this year and is reportedly set to begin college at Loyola University in the fall. He remains in custody at the Kenosha County Jail.

He or mommy and daddy better be prepared to pay…there was NO NEED for this to happen. My condolences to the family, that poor pup.
As an alumnus of Loyola, I hope his acceptance has been revoked. He can go to UW Parkside. They really need students.
Driving like that is Attempted Murder ……. against every member of the public …….. and the laws need to be changed to reflect that.
The reckless driving in and around Kenosha has gotten out of control.
Typical under disciplined, over indulged spoiled brat from wealthy suburb. I hope the man sues the crap out of that family. Shame on them.
Ok, is this information that you actually have knowledge of, or are you just assuming?
Seems like your life is miserable
No, not at all miserable. I just base my decisions on facts.

This kid needs to be locked away for a long long time man…
Well ya know maybe I’ll pardon him maybe not ( I will not)
Hopefully he’s getting his instagram reel scrolls up cause he’s not gonna have a phone for a while. Hoping justice is served and we get bad drivers in “fast” bmws off the road
The bmw mentioned in this post is not necessarily “fast” when abused the car could reach speeds up to around 110. But I would define fast as a quick and speedy car. You’re far off
I bet you could tell chtgpt to be able to drive a car better then this guy! Can wait until justice is served
Ban all down pipes and tunes on bmw 335i especially if it’s Keegan Dutton driving!
The people who support this scumbag deserve to be with him. Injuring a person is one thing. But killing a family dog is another those poor kids wish them the best and for the father to heal 100%
I Wonder what the people at Alabama will think about his airhead girlfriend supporting this POS hopefully she has fun four years.
